A fusion of experience and youth

Throughout the last season and a half of this year, national pentathletes competed for important ranking points to get through to the main start of four years. The license period came to an end in early June. Two of our athletes qualified to compete in London, so we'll show you how they have achieved that and what are their chances at the Olympics.

All the Kazakhstan Modern Pentathlon men's team mentors till the last moment had hoped for getting our second athlete into the Olympics in London. And so, on June 15 the International Federation of Modern Pentathlon announced the final list of license holders. To the delight of all there was our most experienced athlete Rustem Sabirhuzin.

Kazakhstan won an Olympic license in pentathlon

 

This became known after the announcement of the International Federation of Modern Pentathlon of the final list of athletes who qualified for the Olympics.

Last year, in November, Ilyashenko won the silver medal in the World Youth Championship, which took place in Buenos Ares, the capital of the Argentine. This result and other successful performances of the Kazakhstani athlete allowed to collect 142 Olympic ranking points,  which were enough to make a young Kazakhstani athlete to go to the Games of four years for the first time in his career.

UIPM Announces Modern Pentathlon Olympic Qualified Athletes

Monaco: June 1, 2012 - after a year of travelling the world on the International Modern Pentathlon circuit, 72 athletes are one step closer to reaching their Olympic dream.

"UIPM is very proud of the high level performances that all athletes chasing Olympic qualification have produced over the past 12 months" stated UIPM Secretary General Joël Bouzou, who himself competed in 4 Olympic Games.
