RoK Modern Pentathlon National Team’s leader Pavel Ilyashenko in his interview for the Republican internet-portal “Spoerts.kz” shared his thoughts about Modern Pentathlon, told about his sport experience and about his cherished wish.
— Why did you choose Modern Pentathlon? What do you like in this sport?
— I don’t know why I am so immersed in Modern Pentathlon. In the childhood I tried different sports, but in time I was bored with everything. My brother started to deal with pentathlon and I followed him. I tried and immediately liked it. Thus, I started to go on and develop my skills in pentathlon.
— It is said, that sportsmen start to deal with pentathlon getting swimming practice. In what way does swimming develop staying power? And what sport did you do before pentathlon?
— I completely agree with you concerning swimming. But except swimming I went to Greco-Roman wrestling, sambo and hockey.
— What minimum kit for the pentathlete can you name and approximate cost of it?
— If we talk about the kit for beginners, it costs not more than 100 000 tenge. Necessary clothes for kids - cross training shoes and swimming trunks.
— Is Pentathlon National Team of the RoK provided with all necessary sport kits?
— I think, it is. It is obvious that the sport kit wears out with time. Currently, everything is OK.
— What your strong and weak sports can you point out?
— I think, I am the best in running as I can tolerate. I need to develop swimming skills, despite the fact that I came in pentathlon aforementioned sport. I have average results in swimming.
— How do you estimate your performance in World Cups?
— I think, I was a little bit unlucky. I could reach the winners’ pedestal, but failed horse riding and fencing. It was very difficult psychologically.
— Do you make plans for the Olympiad in Rio?
— Do not yet. We have 3 years up ahead. Now I am concentrated on the upcoming World Championship, and Modern Pentathlon Asian Championship, that will take place in Almaty in October.
— What countries are dominated in World Modern Pentathlon?
— Of course, it is Russia. Second place is Hungary and third place is China in my opinion.
— What upcoming competitions are you going to take part in?
— The closest competition – the final of World Cup that will start on 27th of May in Nizhny Novgorod.
— What do you think about your training for the upcoming competitions? Do you keep your shape in proper way?
—Yes, I do. We don’t organize training camps as we have no place for running. It is difficult to run on the asphalt road and breathe exhaust gases from city transport. We have one sport basis in Kapchagai, but it is summery and opens in May.
— Is Modern Pentathlon popular in Kazakhstan and what is necessary to make it be mass sport?
— Modern Pentathlon is developing in Kazakhstan and becomes more popular. There are a lot of sport schools throughout our country. President of Modern Pentathlon Federation Berik Imashev does everything for its development and popularization.
— Do you have a sport dream? What do you want from big-time sports?
— I want to win Olympic Games as all the sportsmen. This is my dearest wish.
